I believe beauty can be found all around us and time and time again I find myself drawn to our beautiful coniferous trees. My absolute favorites are the gorgeous old snags, whether standing stately on the side of a forest trail, perched at water’s edge – ocean, lake or river, or solitary in a meadow. There is something very appealing and irresistible about a lifeless tree, trunk devoid of bark with barren branches gracefully reaching skyward that I need to explore with my paintbrush. In the summer of 2020 while exploring the sand dunes of Farwell Canyon in the Chilcotin, this majestic tree on the edge of the dunes caught my eye and I could not wait to paint it’s portrait.
